Stone Town & Prison Island
Resembling with an “African Havana”, Stone Town is the kind of city where everywhere you look, you will see catch the perfect street photography shot. People that are running from one place to another, merchants negotiating between each other or with some clients, street sellers trying to make a quick or hard penny, new buildings sitting side to side with former colonial ruins, narrow streets with playful shades, smells and colours that merge with each other into a symphony of hard to digest contrasts.
All in All, this city will drain you of energy but it will give you back some much more. You just have to go with an open mind and heart to learn and absorb the intricate Swahili culture and the tumultuous history of the city.
In the afternoon, you will catch a boat and you will go to Prison Island to get your fair share of tranquility and silence. There, you can wander between the giant tortoises while you feed and take photos with them. This is a much deserved break after the city tour.
On your way back you will visit the night market that comes to life each evening, after the Sun sets.
Wander around the market or gaze the boys that host water jumping acrobatics contests every evening in the shallow waters of the former harbour.
